Badminton Academy

Shuttle Sport International and the Douglas College Sports Institute have come together to form an unprecedented partnership to open the Shuttle Sport/Douglas College Badminton Academy. Shuttle Sport’s Performance Director, Arif (Al) Mawani will provide leadership for the Badminton Academy. Mawani, currently the 2007 Canada Winter Games Coach, is also the Head Coach of the Douglas College badminton team. Athletic Director Lou Rene, feels "The Academy will not only encourage but will also integrate participation in all aspects of the sport from coaching development, elite competition, recreational/drop-in programs through to camps for kids.”

The 6 court badminton academy is located in Coquitlam at the David Lam campus.

The Badminton Academy provides the following programs:

Shuttle 1 (Age 8 – 14)
The ‘Development Program’ will encompass the following:
• Basic skills & tactics
• Rules & Regulations
• Games
• Prizes
• Free ‘New Registration’ Gift

Lesson Dates: Tuesdays 4:30 – 6:30pm

Shuttle Adult Program -

Adult Badminton programs begin January 16, 2008. This Academy is based in Coquitlam at the David Lam campus.
The Shuttle Adult Program offered on Wednesdays will cover the following:
Novice to intermediate skills & tactics
Game analysis
There will be 1 hour of instruction & 1 hour of games every night

Instructor: Thomas Wong – NCCP Level 2 certified coach
(Guest Instructor: Al Mawani)
Note: There will be additional coaches added depending on registration numbers

Shuttle 1 - New West (Age 8 – 14)

Then the Shuttlesport/Douglas College Badminton Academy is for you. Badminton programs begin January 22, 2008. This Academy is based out of Glenbrook School, located at 701 Park Crescent, New Westminster.

Drop-In Badminton
Come by and have some fun. Program is open for drop-in participation every Tuesday and Thursday night from 8:00 – 10:00 P.M. at the Pinetree Community Centre. This on-going program is on a first – come, first – serve basis.
Cost: $3.50 per night

Douglas College Badminton Team
The Douglas College Badminton team participates in the BCCAA/CCAA league schedule. Brad Davis,
the former Douglas College All-Canadian and academic standout will take over the reigns in 2004.

In 1999, the CCAA bannered Douglas College's Badminton program with the "Badminton Supremacy" title. During the first 25 years of the CCAA's inception, Douglas College has won 15 National Championships at all levels within the Badminton platform. From team to individual titles, Douglas College has been ever present on the winner's podium.
